Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a gift registry?

No, we don’t! But if you REALLY love us, you can contribute to our wishing well (virtually via this link or in real life at the wedding). The money will be set aside in our Baby and House Funds.

How should we get there?

Parking can be scarce at both Emanuel Synagogue and Tamarama Surf Club (especially on a Sunday!). We recommend getting an uber or taxi to Emanuel, and signing up for our complementary shuttle bus to Tamarama.

What is a Kabbalat Panim?

Kabbalat Panim takes place before the ceremony, and is time for guests to hang out with the couple. Usually, the couple sits separately and welcome their guests individually. However, we will be spending time with our guests and each other! During this time our Brit Ahava (marriage contract) will be looked over by our Rabbi, and officially signed by us. It will be at 12pm at Emanuel Synagogue, and yes, there will be food.

What will the ceremony look like?

The ceremony structure will be that of a traditional Jewish wedding, with a couple of changes here and there. You can expect a Chuppah (wedding canopy), Sheva Brachot (seven blessings) said by our family and friends, and a glass being smashed. If you’d like to read more about Jewish weddings, click here. We will provide more information about the order of the ceremony on the day.

I don’t know Hebrew - will I understand what’s going on?

Yes! Some parts of the wedding ceremony will be conducted in Hebrew, however we will always provide an English translation right after.

Do I need to cover my head/hair?

Men are asked to wear a kippah/yarmulke inside the Chapel where the ceremony will be held. And don’t worry - there will be some available on the day! Women are not expected to cover their hair.

Can I take photos during the ceremony? Or are you gonna be weird about it?

Yes, but can you try and capture our good sides? Also try not to get in the way of our photographer! We’ll have a Google Photo Album set up after the wedding so you can share them with us! Oh, but PLEASE put your phones on silent.

What are we eating?

As you know, Kashrut laws prohibit mixing milk and meat products together. As such, we’ll only be having dairy or parev (neutral) foods. Expect a lot of cheese and fish! There will also be plenty of Lacteeze to go around.

Am I expected to prepare a karaoke song?

Expected? No. Highly encouraged? Absolutely. Fair warning: if too many of our guests sign up for karaoke, we will be curating the hour based on the best song submissions.

Is Snoopy invited?

Unfortunately, Snoopy is too big and won’t fit inside the Chapel at Emanuel Synagogue. We are devastated, but know he will understand and forgive us.
